Ewen has been a professional photographer for most of his adult life, being dyslexic and leaving school at sixteen he assisted three photographers in a Glasgow studio, each photographer specialising in a different field, giving Ewen one of the best possible learning curves. He's always felt comfortable in the company of people, especially through his lens, and this shows in all of his photography.
With a touch of sadness and excitement, Ewen is giving up his wedding photography business. His last wedding after 21 years of being a full time wedding photographer will be in November this year 2109. It has been a long road since his first wedding in the Eastend of Glasgow in 1976, where the groom was 25min late after watching the first half of Celtic playing Hibernian at Parkhead and then, later in the evening, a massive fight ensued between the two families, back at the reception.
He has photographed and exhibited his wedding photography both at home in the UK and further a field in New York, India, London, Dubai, Italy, Spain, Ireland and France.
He has won many awards for his wedding photography, including the UK Wedding Photographer of the Year in 2005, Cosmopolitan Bride Photographer of the Year in 2010, and Scottish Wedding Photographer of the Year on two occasions, 2004 and 2012. He has also won UK Avant Garde Photographer of the Year, Scottish Reportage Wedding Photographer of the Year on four occasions, and also Scottish Pet Photographer of the Year.
He opened up his boutique photographic studio in his home town of Lauder in the Scottish Borders, where he has built up a stunning reputation for his portrait work. His other love, apart from golf, is his love of animals and in particular dogs...
He lives with his wife Pam, whom he has been married to for 37 years and who helps out in the studio and keeps him on track. Also, his two very large dogs Magnus, an Irish Wolfhound and Mirren, a Scottish Deerhound. (www.mmpam.blogspot.co.uk A look at the life of two large dogs, one a Wolfhound dog, one a Deerhound bitch with just one year difference in age, and how they control the lives of their hapless owners.)
His work with charity organisations is never ending, particularly with Macmillan Cancer Support, a charity that is very close to his heart. He photographed their 2014 calendar taking up a huge amount of his spare time, as well as donating his services to other local charities. Favourites include Cash for Kids, Arthursheils Rescue and Borders Animal Rescue
Ewen's personal work also is time consuming. He is currently working to finish off his 'Lauder Worthies and Trades' exhibition. Exhibition to take place early 2020
Due to the continuing Covid - 19 situation we find ourselves in, a future date for the exhibition will be announced.
